What is lactoferrin?
Lactoferrin is a natural protein produced by the human body and found in milk, tears, saliva, and the lining of the nose, mouth, and gut. It is most concentrated in colostrum — the first milk a mother produces after birth — and is one of the body's primary first-line immune defenders. It works by binding iron to deprive bacteria and viruses of the nutrient they need to replicate, while simultaneously activating immune cells and moderating inflammation. Scientists have published more than 9,500 peer-reviewed papers on its properties and call it the miracle molecule. Leapfrog is the UK's first brand to bring it to market as a dedicated chewable supplement.
What is lactoferrin good for?
Lactoferrin supports immune defence, sleep quality, cognitive function, bone health, skin vitality, iron regulation, and gut health. It works across multiple biological systems simultaneously because it is already part of how the human body functions — it is not a foreign compound but a protein the body already makes and already uses. At the immune level it binds iron to starve pathogens, activates natural killer cells, and moderates the inflammatory response. It also crosses the blood-brain barrier to support cognitive clarity and memory, stimulates bone formation, promotes beneficial probiotic strains in the gut, and supports skin integrity through antioxidant action.
Is lactoferrin the same as colostrum?
No. Colostrum is the first milk a mother produces after birth and is rich in lactoferrin — but colostrum is the whole food, and lactoferrin is one of its most active components. When you take a colostrum supplement you are getting lactoferrin alongside many other compounds, hormones, and growth factors, at a dose that varies considerably between products. Leapfrog uses isolated, high-purity lactoferrin — Proferrin® at greater than 95% purity — which means every tablet contains a precise, consistent, bioactive dose. Unlike colostrum supplements, Leapfrog IMMUNE and DAILY contain virtually no lactose (less than 0.01%) and are free from the hormones and growth factors present in colostrum. Where does Leapfrog's lactoferrin come from?
Leapfrog's lactoferrin is sourced exclusively from Ingredia — a B Corp-certified dairy cooperative in Northern France that has been working with milk proteins since 1949. The cows are raised on family farms without GMOs, hormones, or antibiotics, under a strict Charter for Good Agricultural Practices. Lactoferrin is extracted from fresh cow's milk — not the cheaper by-product whey — using a low-temperature chromatography and filtration process that preserves the protein's native bioactivity. The result is Proferrin® lactoferrin at greater than 95% purity — the highest commercially available. There is only approximately 100mg of lactoferrin in a litre of cow's milk, which makes this level of extraction both rare and expensive.
How much lactoferrin should I take per day?
The right dose depends on what you are using it for. For daily foundational immune resilience, Leapfrog DAILY contains 100mg of lactoferrin per tablet — one tablet every morning. For acute immune support at the first sign of illness, Leapfrog IMMUNE contains 250mg per tablet — one to two tablets per day for adults. For children aged 4 to 11, one IMMUNE tablet per day is appropriate. DAILY and IMMUNE can be taken together — DAILY every morning as your baseline and IMMUNE added at the first sign of a cold for additional targeted support.

Leapfrog IMMUNE is the UK's first lactoferrin immune supplement — a chewable tablet containing Lactoferrin 250mg, Zinc 5mg and Vitamin C 40mg, formulated to strengthen innate immune defences and stop colds in their tracks. Lactoferrin binds iron to starve bacteria and viruses before they can replicate, activates natural killer cells, and moderates inflammation. Zinc supports immune cell production and function. What is Leapfrog SNOOZE?
Leapfrog SNOOZE is a natural, non-addictive sleep and stress supplement containing Lactium® 150mg, Lactoferrin 50mg and Vitamin B6. Lactium® is a patented milk peptide that acts on GABA receptors in the brain to reduce cortisol and improve sleep quality — without addiction, tolerance build-up, or next-day grogginess. Nine clinical studies have confirmed its effectiveness for stress, anxiety, sleep onset, and sleep duration. Vitamin B6 supports neurotransmitter production and healthy sleep architecture. Leapfrog FOCUS is a natural cognitive supplement containing Lactium® 50mg, Lactoferrin 50mg, L-Theanine 50mg and Vitamin B12 30mcg. It supports calm, sustained mental clarity and concentration without caffeine, stimulants or side effects. Lactium® reduces cortisol-driven mental noise. L-Theanine promotes relaxed alertness through alpha wave activity. Lactoferrin supports cognitive clarity by regulating iron levels. What is Leapfrog DAILY?
Leapfrog DAILY is the UK's first lactoferrin-led foundational daily supplement — a single chewable tablet containing Lactoferrin 100mg, Vitamin D3 10mcg, Vitamin K2 45mcg, Vitamin C 40mg, Vitamin E 6mg and Zinc 5mg. It is designed for daily use to support immune resilience, bone integrity, skin vitality and antioxidant protection. DAILY is formulated specifically for women aged 35 to 55 navigating the immune, hormonal, bone and skin changes of perimenopause and midlife, though it is suitable for all adults. One chewable tablet every morning. DAILY works alongside IMMUNE, SNOOZE and FOCUS — take DAILY as your daily baseline and add any other Leapfrog product as needed.
Can I take more than one Leapfrog product at the same time?
Yes. All four Leapfrog products are designed to work together. DAILY every morning as your foundational baseline. Add IMMUNE at the first sign of a cold or during periods of high immune demand. Take SNOOZE in the evening when sleep needs support. Use FOCUS on days when cognitive demand is highest. There is no safety concern with taking any combination of Leapfrog products simultaneously.
What is the Pulse Method?
The Pulse Method is Leapfrog's approach to sustained seasonal immune resilience — one IMMUNE tablet every day for one month, then one month off, repeating through the high-risk autumn and winter period. This cyclic approach replenishes lactoferrin levels continuously through peak illness season without requiring year-round supplementation. It is particularly effective started in September at the beginning of the school term, maintained through October and November, taken as a break in early December, then restarted for January and February.
Safety and suitability
Are Leapfrog supplements safe for children?
IMMUNE is suitable for children from age 4. Children aged 4 to 11 take one tablet per day. Children aged 12 and over follow adult dosing guidance. SNOOZE is suitable from age 7. FOCUS is suitable from age 12. DAILY is formulated for adults. All Leapfrog products are free from artificial colours, artificial flavours, and GMOs. They contain a milk allergen declaration — they are not suitable for those with a diagnosed milk protein allergy but are well tolerated by people with lactose intolerance as the lactose content is less than 0.01% per tablet.
Are Leapfrog supplements safe during pregnancy?
IMMUNE and SNOOZE are both safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Lactoferrin is a naturally occurring protein found in breast milk and colostrum and is considered safe throughout pregnancy. Lactium® in SNOOZE has been studied in pregnant and breastfeeding women without adverse effects. DAILY and FOCUS are not recommended during pregnancy — if you are pregnant and considering DAILY please consult your healthcare practitioner. As with any supplement, we recommend checking with your GP or midwife if you have specific concerns.
Are Leapfrog supplements suitable for lactose intolerant people?
Yes. Although lactoferrin and Lactium® are derived from cow's milk, the extraction process removes virtually all lactose — Leapfrog products contain less than 0.01% lactose per tablet and are well tolerated by people with lactose intolerance. They carry a milk allergen declaration and are not suitable for people with a diagnosed milk protein allergy.
Can I take Leapfrog with other supplements or medications?
Leapfrog supplements are food supplements made from naturally occurring bioactives. There are no known significant interactions between lactoferrin or Lactium® and common medications. However if you are taking prescription medication or managing a specific health condition, we always recommend consulting your healthcare practitioner before starting any new supplement.
